To Know when Getting An Online MBA
In present days, going back to school & getting an advanced degree is of the smartest things you can do to advance your career in the business world. Graduating an MBA program is a great way to increase your market value as an worker. Candidates with MBA degrees have a immense advantage over candidates without MBAs. Best of all, due to the number of online MBA programs, attending an MBA school is now simpler than ever. There's some things you require to know about getting an online MBA, & this editorial will provide some information to get you started.

First & foremost, an online MBA program is no different than attending an MBA school. Lots of people falsely think that an online MBA program is somehow less valuable or less competitive than in-class MBA school. While this may have been true in the coursework of the nascent stages of online MBA programs, today's online programs are as valuable as their more traditional counterparts. In fact, most elite MBA programs now offer online MBA degrees & lots of schools do not differentiate between online degrees & day program degrees.

Second, because MBA programs are viewed the same as normal day programs, admissions standards are as strict for online MBA programs. An online MBA is not an simple way to a high-level degree. You still require to have nice grades & high check scores to gain admission to an elite online MBA school.

Students or current professionals seeking admission to an online MBA program will still must take & pass a examination. Sometimes elite online programs can be more competitive than full-time programs, & this trend is expected to continue as online programs continue to gain popular acceptance. Acceptance in to an elite MBA program requires discipline & independent study.

Another common misconception surrounding online MBA programs is that they are somehow simpler than full-time programs. This is not entirely true. Online students do usually take fewer credit hours per semester, but this is largely due to the fact that the giant majority of online MBA school students are currently working. So while coursework load expectations may be slightly lower for online students than full time students, online students are balancing school with a full time job. In this regard, earning an online degree is no cakewalk. Earning an online degree requires self-discipline, time management, & serious study skills. This is of the reasons that online MBAs are so valuable.

Clearly there's lots of misconceptions about online MBAs. Some are nice, some are bad. The fact is, an online MBA is an brilliant way to advance your career on your time, but it won't be simple.

Find An MBA Program That Is Right For

Deciding to get an MBA is probably of the most challenging decisions to make. & one time made, choosing the right MBA program looks like a difficult task. However, with brick & mortar MBAs & MBAs online to select from, it is actually simple.

There's types of MBA programs to select from: a brick & mortar school, an MBA online program with a brick & mortar school, or an MBA online-only program. Choosing between the types of schools is simple. Attending at a school campus requires time, location near a school & the ability to fit all the classes in to a reasonable schedule. For these reasons, the trend toward MBAs online is rising & being met by both brick & mortar & online schools.

There's now lots of respectable online schools that offer an MBA program. advantage of these programs is the ability to select a school that requires online lecture attendance or a school that has either provided all the lectures in a webinar format or as paper materials. Learning style often dictates the choice here, if hearing the material is a requirement for nice learning, then choosing a school with online lectures will lead to a great fit & successful learning experience. If reading the material & finishing the assignments is for retention of business theories, then choosing a school that features scheduled lectures may unnecessarily complicate the learning experience.

If having the brick & mortar school name is important, then by all means, select an online program offered by a brick & mortar school. The largest stumbling block to these programs is usually the residency requirement. For an MBA online, most brick & mortar schools have campus attendance requirements, which are usually between weeks & a month.

To round out the success of getting an MBA, other factor is key - money. Lots of corporations have a tuition reimbursement program. Increasingly common is a tuition reimbursement program limited to a specific school the corporation has selected, in part so they can exactly calculate projected costs to budget around. Flexibility & comfort is key here. If the tutoring reimbursement is a requirement, it won't matter what learning style is best or about the residency requirement, the decision is made by the corporate human resources department. If there is freedom of choice, explore grants, loans & scholarships from professional organizations to fund the appropriate MBA program that meets your needs.

There's other some other considerations, of coursework. The quality of the professors, whether the student body is accustomed to working & making professional connections online, & career services. Select wisely, & learn a lot!

Is it worth the money? MBA Progrm Abroad
Even by the most conservative estimates, pursuing an MBA degree abroad would set you back by at least Rs. 10 lakhs, in case you need to shell out the funds by yourself. This might go up to as much as Rs. 30 lakhs for the top U.S. B-schools. Financial aid is limited, & comes with strings attached. Given the exorbitant expenditure involved, is it worth it?

The answer depends on plenty of factors, & ultimately, has to come from you. They can help you evaluate the scenario by laying out these factors before you. The factors must be thought about together with each other, than in isolation. Weigh them carefully, & choose to what extent each factor is applicable to you.

1. How much would it pinch you?

MONEY! This, of work, is the bottomline. Start with the assumption that you are not going to get any scholarship, as getting financial aid for an MBA program is hard. Then look at the resources at your disposal (could be your own bank account, or your parents, or any benefactor you may have)

In case you can spare some amount (Rs. 5-6 lakhs), you could still think about going, as youâll be able to manage the first few semesters by yourself. Two times youre there, youll must find ways to raise some funds (most Indian students manage this, at least the smart ones definitely do!)
In case you have sufficient money (Rs. 10-15 lakhs), our recommendation is: go ahead. It'll surely show to be funds well spent the experience itself is great!

In case you don't belong to any of the above categories, how about trying for an Indian MBA?

In case you are constrained on funds, but can manage a bank loan, it still makes sense to go ahead. However, you must be confident that you will do well in the program & manage to receive a job. (Jobs are hard to find in places like Australia & UK).

2. What are your options?

Note: The bottomline is an MBA abroad is worth the funds. Even in case you spend 15 lakhs doing an MBA from a nice school, you will recover the funds within a year of passing out. Start thinking like a business manager even before your MBA.

A lot depends on what options you have here.

Quote : 'The choices you make choose the life you lead'.

If you have been toying with the idea of going abroad for an MBA, what are the other options that you have? Would you do it from a top-rung Indian institute, like the IIMs? Well, the answer depends on your aspirations.

If you have cracked the CAT, go for it. The IIMs are among the best in the world. However, in case you need to select between IIM & a top institute like Harvard or London Business School, it makes sense to select the latter. The exposure & contacts that you will get in a top school are basically unmatchable. An M.B.A. from a top-rung B-school will definitely propel you in the global job market, & you will soon be on your way to the top of the ladder.
*

If your choice is between a mid-tier B-school abroad & an average Indian institute, it makes immense sense to go abroad. The mid-tier schools abroad offer much better career prospects. An MBA from a mid-range U.S. B-school also has healthy prospects, given the buoyant state of the US economy in the last few years.

In case you have close relatives abroad, who can help you with money and/or getting you an employment on completion of your MBA, you are in an enviable position. However, make positive you talk to the relatives before you apply.

This is probably the most important criterion.

3. What do you plan to do after the MBA?

The critical query is : Do you wish to settle there
50% of the individuals who come to us say yes to this. The other 50% say they will come back, after staying on for a few years.
Ultimately, only a few come back.

This is applicable chiefly to the US & Canada. Getting a work permit in Australia is hard. UK has recently allowed international MBA students to work for two years

In case you are positive of taking up a job abroad, , managing to get yourself a job, then it makes sense to even take a loan to go abroad for an MBA. In all likelihood, you will repay the loan within a year. (Going by the average salaries Indians manage after their MBA).

If you are planning to return to India immediately on completion, you ought to think three times before going, unless money are not a consideration for you.
*

The often-asked query is : how valuable is the international MBA degree in India? The answer depends on which school you do your MBA from: a Harvard degree will command respect anywhere in the world. If you are from a middle-rung school, you are as nice as an MBA from a mid-rung Indian B-school.

The final word: you can spend all of your funds, take a loan, get in to the best school, do whatever; ultimately what matters is how well you can "market" yourself. That's what will get you the "big bucks!"
In case you would like to speak about your personal profile & case with other MBA aspirants, you can use the MBA section of the Infozee discussion forums. Your post would be seen not by counsellors & existing students, but also by plenty of MBA aspirants like you:

Is an MBA Program a wise business decision?
MBA: Master the Art of Business Program
Is an MBA getting a wise business decision No disrespect intended to any person or institution, but is an MBA necessary? Bill Gates, Steve Jobs & Steve Wozniak seldom got theirs & lots of, lots of other successful business people (& book reviewers) lack that degree & appear none the more serious for it.

In his new book, author & consultant not only explains the reasons they selected not to pursue his MBA, but does a masterful job of eviscerating the program in general &, more specifically, the reasons people seek it & why they needn't & shouldn't; in his not-so-humble opinion: Money.

Young Kaufman had an undergrad degree & a great job at Procter & Bet when they was urged to continue his schooling, which meant going after the inevitable MBA. In lieu, they did a quick cost-benefit analysis & decided to read & study on his own. They blogged about his decision & posted a preliminary reading list, which was subsequently picked up by inveterate anti-MBA advocate

Spending around $250,000 or more, to get an MBA from a top business school is a lousy investment & unnecessary. In fact, the whole biz school deal is fundamentally a money-making enterprise for educational institutions who profit mightily from teaching mostly ancient, arcane, academic approaches to business that track very tiny with the actual world & the ways it operates. Further, says Kaufman, there is no assurance that the instructors are qualified beyond possessing the skills necessary to teach (if that) & are usually bereft of the experience & achievements that would confirm the efficacy of their instruction.

He is canny to know that reading this book in a linear fashion - one chapter after another - is not necessarily the best way to go, so they encourages browsing, skimming & skipping around. I'd add, in fact, that reading it sequentially is downright uninteresting, so after about 125 pages, I abandoned the hard work & skipped around, as suggested. Kaufman is not a nasty writer, so that wasn't the issue. I'd decided that the abrupt shift after a couple of pages on each subject might have been intended to accommodate our increasingly short attention spans, but it wasn't working for me. True, each tiny chapter had an online part, but when I am reading a book I don't necessarily require to bounce on & off the Net to enlarge the experience or regardless of the intended effect was supposed to be. Sometimes, a tiny concentrated depth is where it is at.

Still, I think Kaufman is a very smart man & possibly his collective nuggets would resonate more with other audiences though it didn't make it with me. A few years back, I read & reviewed a thick tome called MBA In A Box & liked that a bit. Its more expansive approach worked for me. Still, in all fairness, I think I'll hold onto & keep it handy as a reference, since it covers every aspect of business in an smart way.
